Canned beer has gotten a bad rap – images of the archetypal “Joe Six Pack” sitting on a frayed couch sucking back Coors or Schlitz, giddy college freshmen excited to get a sympathy six pack of Bud from an older sorority sister, or Williamsburg hipsters pretending to “keep it real” by drinking the piss water known as PBR. But there as been a resurgence of craft brews that just happen to come in a can.

The weekend before last I ventured out of my cocoon to attend the 18th annual Vermont Brewers Festival. I had committed to going at the end of last week and spent the week resting up for the adventure. The heat and the lines threatened to do me in, but I slathered on 50 SPF sunscreen to samples a vast assortment of microbrews.

I am able to manage two things: 1) Finding excellent beer locations in the United States and 2) increasing my chances of free beer and excellent service at these locations.
