Stuff Lesbians Like Part 7: Mourning dead or otherwise departed L Word charactersBy Grace Chu |

Some lesbians are still bitter over the death of Dana, which is entirely justified. Everyone identified with Dana’s struggles of coming out and trying to fit in with the lesbian community. But the writers sacrificed her to raise awareness for breast cancer. Why couldn’t they have sacrificed someone else? Instead, Jenny, whom no one (except for the truly disturbed and psychotic) identifies with, survives every season. Watching Jenny is the lesbian equivalent of being waterboarded.
Lesbians continue to get misty eyed when they speak of characters who were killed off or otherwise removed from the show two, three or even four seasons ago. Lesbians will always treat previous seasons and non-returning characters like old people treat their childhood. “Back in those days, we didn’t have the problems we have today. There was no crime, you could leave your door unlocked, and Carmen was dating Shane on The L Word.”
And although we can expect Jenny to survive until the series ends its run in 2009 and other characters will probably be killed off or disappear suddenly for no reason at all, lesbians will continue to tune in dutifully every Sunday and to mourn the dearly departed.

Lol, fair point but it’s not all bad… Remember The Manny? (Or are we just talking about actual L’s here because male/straight characters don’t have the same effect on us?)

Oh no! I forgot The Manny… They made the Manny a cheater, and now he’s off the show, leaving Kit horny and alone. Kit needs action too!

Danaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Oh how I miss her! We need another Alice day dream so she can come back … even if it’s for a few moments.

Ahh, yes. Those were some mighty fine times. The good ol’ days. I miss Carmen. . . and Dana, and Papi, and Carmen, and Carmen. I certainly mourn the departed. Well spoken words, Ms. Grace Chu.
