The VMAs 2009- I’ll Never Be Tired of Lady GagaBy Grace Gatsby |
Sure, hetero-heart throbs Leighton Meester, Megan Fox and the entire cast of “Twilight” hit the stage last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the night did not leave us gay gals entirely out of the loop. Case and point: Lady Gaga.
First, Lady Gaga absolutely killed it (pun intended) with her performance of her new single, “Paparazzi”:

Additionally, she was wearing kooky outfits all night and somehow managed to get in just about every frame where they really just wanted a reaction shot from Beyonce, since she was sitting behind her, which I found hilarious.
Speaking of Beyonce, this year’s VMAs just got gayer by the minute. First, host Russel Brand’s bisexuality joke, targeted at Lady Gaga, completely flopped, which I thought was kind of awesome. (That it flopped, not the joke, obvs.)
Second, a crowd shot showed Perez Hilton giving Lady Gaga a standing ovation right after she accepted her award and said, “This is for God and the gays.” If that’s not a quote that will live in infamy, I don’t know what is.
Then, right after that, Pink performed her song “Sober” while swinging from a freaking trapeze. You remember “Sober” right? The one where she makes out with herself in the music video? Anyhow, it’s moments like these that almost pushed this year’s VMA’s over the top in gayness. They probs should have saved Katy Perry for the end but instead wasted her in the first five minutes doing a cover of “We Will Rock You.”
Anyways, I can bet you that right now at the NewNowNext Awards headquarters over in Logo land the producers are thinking, “What are we gonna do to top THAT?” since they know they’ll already be on everyone’s list for being bribed giving some sort of award to Ilene Chaiken for “Gimme Sugar,” I mean, “The Real L Word.” You know if Showtime owned the NewNowNext Awards, Mama Chaiken would be all over that.
Actually, they should probs just give the NewNowNext Awards to Lady Gaga; all of them. She could host, perform, present awards to herself, and interview herself on the red carpet. I would so watch Lady Gaga ask herself, “What are you wearing?” Remember when Mia Kirshner interviewed herself? It would be like that, but 100x crazier and who doesn’t want to watch that? Take that idea and run with it, Logo, you’re welcome.
All I’m trying to say is this: Just like we love to continue to follow L Word actresses no matter what, Lady Gaga is someone who has some staying power here and I for one am someone who can appreciate a girl that never wears pants.

Lady Gaga is the only performer that makes me feel old. I can laugh at the spectacle of her performances (on/off screen) but she’s just not my thing. I guess it’s time for me to retire to my rocking chair.

I thought she looked like she’d been swallowed by a giant anemone.

hehe it always makes me giggle that Americans are just learning about Pink’s live show awesomeness. I think I saw her in about 2002 for the first time (shes been doing her massive stadium shows here in Australia for a while.). Amazing. For reals guys go and see her Funhouse tour. You wont regret it, she has a fabulous stage show.

Excellent reportage, analysis and observations on Lady Gaga – Paparazzi and on Pink – Sober. The self-interviewing , making out with (and getting off on) one’s self, appreciation of never wearing pants – it sounds good to me so I’ll run with talking to myself and getting turned on by pantied photos of myself or face down on my pillow in just blouse and panties in the mirror. Great idea you have for the NewNowNext Awards. It is great when people are entertained and amused. Love Grace The Spot articles. Kudos.
