Welcome, Jennifer Knapp!By Grace Underfire |

In case you are living under a rock, I wanted to write an update on a Christian-artist-gone-rogue-lesbian-out-like-a-rockstar-singer/songwriter-rockstar.
I own her early albums and I am not ashamed to admit my love of her sultry “Undo me” voice. I was in Christian club/school/church from a wee youngster to an Out like Ellen college grad. No shame in my past or in my music tastes. There are quite a few of use who have endured the struggle of growing up in a religious dogma that is politically and socially judgmental. You are definitely not alone. Oh Jennifer, we couldn’t be happier to have you on our lovely card-carrying-lesbian side.

Near the end, she has a line that urged me to post this to the lovely readers of Grace the Spot:
“I would rather be judged before God as being an honest human being,” she said. “If I am in any way unpleasing in His sight, I can only hope and pray that He gives me the opportunity to find who I am supposed to be.”
We have another lesbian to Grace our community. For all those Christian and non-Christian Lesbos out there, let’s help a sister out. For those who are interested in giving Jennifer a new audience, go check her out. Her vocals are unique and her writing is beautiful.
I am intrigued…and am a fan. If anyone knows Jennifer, I would love to give her a good old Grace the Spot interview at any time.

I always wondered about Knapp — so many of her lyrics spoke to me when I was in the process of coming out as a gay Christian. I’m happy that she’s been able to embrace that aspect of herself.
