Does your mama do drama?

By Grace Fox

There is a children’s book called, “Is Your Mama a Llama?” in which a little llama named Lloyd asks his animal friends about their mothers. We know something that Lloyd does not, however. We know that the word that goes best with “mama” is not “llama” – it’s “drama.” So, step aside Lloyd because I need to ask, “Does Your Mama Do Drama?”

“Does your mama do drama?” I asked my friend Grace. “Yes, yes, she does,” said Grace with a face. “She smiles and tells me our visit went well but then tells my sister our visit was hell.” “Oh,” I said, “That must be a pain. It must make you feel like you’re going insane.”

“Does your mama do drama?” I asked my friend Kate. “Oh my god, yes!” Kate said with no wait. “She always complains that I do nothing right. She nags and she nags ‘til we finally fight.” “Oh,” I said. “That must make you mad. You need an escape plan when things get that bad.”

“Does your mama do drama?” I asked my friend Sue. “What do you think?!” She said looking blue. “She won’t say a word for days at a time. Then, screams, yells and cries after having some wine.” “Oh,” I said. “My mom’s like that too. You just never know what she’s going to do.”

“Does your mama do drama?” I asked my friend Jen. “Oh yes she does!” she said with a grin. “She says that she’ll find me a really good man, ignoring my girlfriend who’s holding my hand!” “Oh,” I said. “I know what you mean. Some mamas know how to make quite a scene.”

Share your mama drama in the comments. It will be cathartic.

Yes she does! She makes quite the effort to find the loveliest frames around. Inside she places pictures of her children, only I’m never to be found.

    :::giggle:::

“Does your mama do drama?” I asked myself. “Hmm what do i think?!” What i can I say without taking a beat is oh yea my mama can do drama, she’s a master of turning up my heat. List too long to explain, but keeps me and my sisters fully entertained.

My mama is into bags. Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Fendi, she has. But when it comes to my ridiculously awesome collection of Chrome and Timbuk2 messengers, she nags.

    Brava! Keep bringin’ it people…

  5. Grumpy Says:

“Does your mama do drama?” you’re asking Grumps? “Why yes she does, in great big lumps! Nothing for weeks and then an email or call, casually mentioning accidents, suicide attempts and falls, mixed in with news of weather and other trivials”

  6. Sandi G Says:

My mama did the drama. Everything that ever happened was somehow her being punished, from something small like being late for a dinner to the day a “friend” from school outed me to her(that day was high drama). Of course the phrase”How can I show my face in public” was followed by her calling everyone she could to get sympathy. There was never a dull day. note: still miss her though, drama and all

My mama did some major drama when I told her I’m engaged to a girl.
She cried, screamed, and kicked me out, saying she can’t be part of my world.

  8. Caroline Says:

Mama drama? I am a fortunate girl. The only drama I hear about, ever, is her having to think about the cost of a new front end for the car vs. running my ex down.

  9. Melissa Says:

Much like Caroline, it’s mostly the same for me. I guess you could say we’re both very lucky.

It’s the rest of my mom’s family, though, that makes me whimper.
News about me would surely give her siblings a long awaited chance to finally look down on her.

  10. Kim Says:

My mama does drama after she drinks. When my mama does drama she says what she thinks. All the things bottled inside come out, with a tone most snide.

“Does my mama do drama?”, I wondered myself…
But drama is bad for a lesbians health!
And surely my mama wouldnt want that for me,
But it is kinda odd how I became the black sheep…
You’re probably wondering her drama of choice-
and she’s never been the type to raise her voice.
    Passive-aggressiveness is her defense mechanism
To deal with her daughter’s lesbianism.

Does my mama do drama? I’ll try to explain, she judges me more than she does complain. Whatever the conversation topic her judgement confirms her child’s myopic. She tells me it’s fine, “as long as I’m happy”, everyone knows that’s mom code for “crappy.”

  13. Grace Chu Says:

Does my mama do drama? She has it in spades.
She tells me that I’m going to get AIDS.
For dating that chick from “immoral” Europe.
Like Lil’ Wayne, was she sippin’ on sizzurp?
She won’t let me eat, she won’t let me breathe.
(To do so would result in an infectious disease.)
Abstinence all the way to my grave!
“Because you can’t put a dildo in an autoclave!”

(Ok, you get it. I don’t need to continue.)

My mama does drama, I say to my peers, she’s divorcing my dad after 30 odd years!
