The day I fell in love with the Fluevog saleswoman

Never underestimate the power of a good pair of shoes. They can make you feel sexy and powerful. If this were not an essential truth, we wouldn’t have spent so much time on this site talking about footwear. I used to spend a lot of money on shoes and I liked them big and clunky because they made feel like I could kick some ass if the need arose. Then, I had kids and the care and feeding of tiny humans cut into my shoe budget. A few months ago, however, I decided that it was time to drop a chunk of change on shoes and knew that the AngelSupervog was the only pair of shoes for me. I also figured they would be the perfect shoes for my trip to New York in August.

There is only one store in Minneapolis that sells Fluevogs and they have a very limited selection so I knew that I would have to order them online. I kept meaning to buy them but I never had my credit card handy when I was online or I had my credit card but was at work and was worried that a giant claw would fall from the ceiling and snatch me up if I tried to shop online. So, time kinda got away from me. I finally sat down yesterday to make my purchase only to find that it takes at least a week for them to process orders because they have a customer service person call to talk to you about your purchase to make sure that you get the right shoe and the best possible fit. That’s nice and all but I don’t have that kind of time! So, I called the Minneapolis store that carries Fluevog to see if they could order them for me and get them here more quickly. The sales person told me that I was in luck – they were getting a big shipment of custom colored Fluevogs immediately. I nearly wept with joy. I asked when I could come in to see the new shoes and she said, “August” and I nearly wept in despair. I said, “Oh no. I need them much sooner than that.” She seemed sympathetic to my shoe emergency and suggested that I call the Fluevog store in Chicago which I did.

The sales person answered the phone and had the most beautiful British accent. She asked how she could help me and I explained my dilemma. We then had the following exchange:

Sales Person: I happen to have a pair of the Angel Supervog in burgundy in your size right here. I will give them a little inspect for you. [PAUSE] Oh, they are just beautiful. The color is gorgeous
and they are absolutely perfect.

Me: Excellent!

Sales Person: I am so happy for you.

As she walked to the front of the store, she asked me if this was my first pair of Fluevogs and I told her that it was and she described the shoes some more and, people, it was like phone/shoe sex. I wanted those shoes sobadly. When the transaction was done/I had been seduced by the accent and the shoe talk, she wished me well and told me that I would have my shoes by next Tuesday and you know what? It never occured to me to ask how much they cost or how much the shipping would be. She was that good. Later in the day, she sent me a personal message with my tracking number and the following message:

Your beautiful Vogs will leave the store today. I hope you love them. The Supervogs are a great choice for a first time Vogger!

…and she signed her name followed by xoxo. I was still smitten enough to find that sincere and endearing. Last week, my daughter suggested that my partner and I each get extra girlfriends because it would be “funner”. I think I might have found mine.

does Fluevog mean glass slipper in vogese? I think you found your princess charming.

Yes, British accents rock! Now, wich part of Britain was it? Americans seem fond of posh English ones, but I like Scottish, other brits like N. Irish and my mate loves the Welsh one. Big variety for a teeny place!

Gotta watch out for that giant claw, eh ;)

Do you want me to go down to Fluevogs and stealthily take a picture of her for you? Because I will do that. Blog-sister-unity and all. ::pumps fist::

Nice, I bet that saleswoman could get you to buy the Vibram footwear if she tried.

Yip – that would be hilarious…but I’m not that far gone. Yet. I’ll tell you one thing – the woman gives good shoe.

My shoes arrived today – 48 hours after ordering them. Inside the box, was a personal note from the salesperson (with hearts drawn on it, no less) and a lollipop. That is service!
