Does Lindsay Lohan say “colored”? “Good”? “Kurd”? “Urdu”? I can’t tell.
Although the media seems to have called it for “colored”, I think we need a recount. Lindsay Lohan wouldn’t be caught dead in last season’s clothes, so it would seem odd that she would be caught using a phrase that is, you know, so last century. Plus, she’s from Long Island, not – say – Kentwood, Louisiana. Don’t mix up your now-reformed former hot tabloid messes!
So, what do you think she said?

As a Brit, living in Canada, and having an ear for accents, I would have to say she almost sad the word “coloured”, it was as if it reached her lips, and died, in a moment of realization that it wasn’t the right word. Who knows. It definitely sounded like “coloured”. But then, it might have been the American spelling! lol!

Because in the United States using the word “colored” to describe an African-American in the year 2008 has been deemed to be inappropriate. No one, except maybe elderly people in the Deep South, uses it anymore.

well, unless you had your head up someone else’s posterior, you will notice that she was “in bed” and “then Samantha… ” Have to say, kudos. It’s the longest relationship she’s ever had.

It almost sounded as though she said “our first four-color president.” Which is handy at presstime. I’d have to say she either said “our first, you know, color president” or “our first, you know, colored president.”

Ummm she definitely said colored. That’s awkward. It sounds like she realized right when she said it that she shouldn’t have said it.

I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt–I think she said “good.” She’s no Rachel Maddow, but she’s definitely not a ignorant ass. Let’s cut our fellow lady-lover some slack.

Besides her potentially erroneous use of terminology, she’s making the right point, though: he’s our first president of color. And if said that way, it’s not offensive. (Colleges boast about “percentage students of color”). So why said that way? I get that it has offensive connotations, but it seems hypocritical to blast it when used as one part of speech and not as another.

@Grace Chu: I’ve heard a perfectly educated new Englander in her 60s use an inappropriate word for African-American in 2008, after which, of course, she immediately stood corrected. In her defense, she cited the fact that she was not au fait with politically correct speak.
In Europe, many people would not flinch over this word, and the term coloured person is still used over here…
To be honest, every time I come to the US I wonder which new term will have been invented. Vertically challenged is still my favourite.

ok soooo i agree that she meant to say colored and then realized what she was saying and tried to save herself … but aside from that is me or does she look like an old hag?
